Who I'm Amplifying

Although I've always tried to follow and listen to people who look different than me, we all have room for improvement. So, over the last few weeks, I've been diversifying my feed and listening more closely to Black creators on Instagram.

In this post, I promote some of my new-found favorite food and sustainability creators who happen to be Black. Some of them are activists and some just have great content. If you're interested in anyone's content, give their page a visit and get to know them!

Mikaela Loach (@mikaelaloach)

Mikaela is a Scotland-based student who blogs about sustainable living, environmental justice, sustainable fashion and more. Her IGTV videos and captions are always so passionate and enlightening, and she has a new podcast, The YIKES Podcast. Her community is filled with encouraging and intelligent followers. She knows her stuff and has great opinions about intersectionality!

Haile Thomas (@hailethomas)

Haile is such an inspiration! She's only 19 years old and is CEO of The Happy Org, a gen z-oriented intersectional wellness initiative. On her personal page, she shares vegan recipes, self-growth tips, reflection prompts and general positivity. She's also coming out with her first cookbook, Living Lively, which is now available for preorder!

Arley Arrington (@arley.cakes)

Arley is a baker and cake decorator based in Richmond, Virginia. Some of her sweets are topped with social justice-inspired phrases, while others are just downright gorgeous. She frequently works with and promotes social justice organizations, like Families Belong Together and Sister Song. If you live in the Richmond area, you can even buy her baked goods!

Murielle Banackissa (@muriellebanackissa)

Murielle is a food photographer, vegan recipe developer, blogger and YouTuber based in Montreal. Her feed is styled to perfection with a combination of dark, moody shots and light, bright shots. On YouTube, she gives super helpful tips about taking and editing photos and posts some lifestyle content. She has really inspired me to up my photography game!

Jeri of Whisper of Yum (@whisperofyum)

Jerildine (Jeri) is a community nutrition worker who recently started a food blog to record her growing collection of recipes. Her photography is clean yet artful, and her page has really great vibes. All her recipes have limited ingredients and fairly simple methods, with a focus on balancing nutrition with indulgence. She has Filipino roots, so many of her dishes are inspired by or directly from the Philippines. I'm super excited to watch her page grow!

Vallery Lomas (@foodieinnewyork)

Vallery is a former lawyer who started working in food full-time after winning season 3 of the Great American Baking Show. She develops sweets and baking recipes, films drool-worthy recipe demos on her Instagram stories and has a cookbook coming out in 2021. All her recipes are seasonal and tested to perfection!
